Mizzou vs South carolina
Columbia, MO - 9/20/2025 - The Missouri Tigers (4-0) hosted the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2) in the battle for the Mayor’s Cup Saturday Night. A packed house of 57,321 fans mostly in black for the blackout theme. The game would have 6 lead changes ultimately seeing the Missouri Tigers go home with the Mayor’s Cup winning 29-20.
The 1st quarter saw a defensive battle from both South Carolina and Missouri. Missouri would hold South Carolina to just 11 plays in the 1st quarter. Missouri would have their last drive of the 1st quarter start at their 1 yard line roll into the 2nd quarter.
Missouri’s quarterback Beau Pribula would connect with Joshua Manning on a for a 8 yard touchdown pass to start off the 2nd quarter. Robert Meyer would however miss the extra point. Not to be outdone, South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, whose start was in question up until Friday, would answer right back on their next drive with a 49 yard passing touchdown to Vandrevius Jacobs. Missouri would drive the field again and Meyer would get a shot at redemption by drilling a 23 yard field goal to give the Tigers the lead again. The Tigers defense would force a 3 and out, but Pribula would throw an interception on their 1st play of their next drive to give it back to South Carolina. Sellers would again connect on a deep pass for a touchdown. His second of the night went for 24 yards to Brian Rowe Jr, which gave them a lead of 14-9. Meyer would add another 22 yard field goal for Missouri to cut it to 14-12 at halftime.
The Tigers would get the ball to start the 3rd quarter but would go 3 and out. South Carolina would drive down and William Joyce would add 3 points on a 32 yard field goal. Missouri would turn to their running game to answer the call. Ahmad Hardy would score on the next drive from 5 yards out. He would try to roll on top of the scrum only to spin off and find daylight on his way to the endzone. Hardy would end the night with 138 yards rushing and that 1 touchdown. After a failed 2 point conversion South Carolina would go back and Joyce would add another 3 points on a 36 yard field goal giving the Gamecocks a 20-18 lead.
The other half of the strong backfield for Missouri Jamal Roberts would open up the 4th quarter with a 16 yard rushing touchdown. Roberts would end the night with 76 yards rushing as well. The Tigers lead stood at 26-20 when again Freshman Meyer was called on to make a 40 yard field goal with under 2 minutes to go to ice the game for Missouri. Meyer put it right down the middle to give the Tigers their final 29-20 lead. Missouri’s Josiah Trotter made the final 4th down tackle to give the Tigers the win.
